When it comes to raising awareness about the various issues encountered by the elderly and the physically disabled individuals, the Division of Service for Aging and Adults with Physical Disabilities upcoming events has established certain activities that could keep the public posted, at the same time ensuring that they will receive the necessary information with regards to the general care for the elderly and the physically disabled.
Just last October 3, the Caregivers Education Series was held at the Christiana Hospital, Room 7 of the John H. Ammon Medical Educational Center. Included in the lecture are:
• Planning for the care of the elderly and the physically disabled
• Details on the access to the resources of both the community as well as government
• Medication management
• How to deal with the common challenges facing the caregiver. This included how to bathe the elderly and the physically disabled, how to assist with their walking and their overall safety inside the home
Diabetes, along with its various complications can have a huge impact especially on the health of the elderly and physically disabled, particularly in the state of Delaware. In response, Delaware Diabetes Coalition held the Delaware Diabetes Wellness Expo at the Dover Downs and Conference Center last November 15.

The Coalition’s aim at the Expo was to further inform the public about how those with Diabetes in Delaware can have an overall improvement in their quality of living. They’ve also emphasized that through the Expo, they will gain some additional knowledge and increase their awareness about the nature of diabetes including its causes, effects, and preventions.

Delaware Diabetes Coalition has published their Community Resource Guide for those who have the condition, including the elderly and the physically disabled, which was later announced during the Expo. The said publication includes resources for professional, medical as well as nutritional services for those who have or know someone who has Diabetes. The publication also contains resources on where you can get both educational as well as financial assistance.
